Hi, my dad seems to be having bowel issues regularly for the past few weeks. Don’t feel like giving laxatives to ‘move’ his digestive tract as it does not seem to be the best option in the long run…. Does anyone know of natural remedies for this? Or healthy food or snack that can help? Thanks in advance!

Hmmm, I’m not an expert in this but I think it is generally safe to say that fibre is essential to our digestive health. Fibre contributes to stool bulk and adds form to the stool, promoting good bowel movements. Fruits like bananas and leafy vegetables are excellent sources of fibres as well. Other foods known to improve digestion and reduce bloating and other digestive problems include ginger and prune. You can also consider yoghurt, miso, kimchi and Yakult/Vitagen as they are good sources of probiotics. Probiotics have been proven to improve our gut health. Besides all these foods, I think the good old advice of drinking more water still holds true as well.
But again, I am no expert in this and if the problem persists, I suggest taking your dad to a professional to seek help as bowel issues could be a sign of a bigger health condition in your loved one.
