My dad seems to recently have a dry mouth. He is not on any medication and seems to not be drinking water...The only liquid he drinks are canned drinks or sometimes coffee. I tried asking him to drink fruit juice instead but it does not seem to be working…. Can anyone advice on how I can help my father? Thank you.

Perhaps the reason why he is not drinking water is because he is used to flavoured beverages and water just taste tasteless to him. Here are some tips and tricks I used to coax my mother who hates drinking plain water to hydrate herself.
1. Since she does not like plain still water, I tried giving her sparking water-based drinks and it worked. Subsequently, I succeeded in swapping the drinks to plain sparking water and it worked as well so this tip might be worth trying!
2. I tried to spice the water up with some fruits, cucumber or mint. Anything I can find at home, and I found that it works well for me.
3. Since your dad does not like fruit juice, perhaps you can get your dad to eat more fruits and vegetables. My mom does not like to drink fruit juice but she’s ok with eating fruits and vegetables and since fruits and veggies are mostly water, it will help with her hydration as well. Remember to choose fruits and veggies that are higher in water content, like cucumber, tomatoes, watermelons, etc.
4. The last trick I use is to cook clear-based or vegetable-based soup so that my mom can get her fluid intake without even realising
I hope these few pointers can help you because they really did work for me. Also, do make sure to stop your dad from drinking alcohol as alcohol may cause increase his risk of dehydration as well. All the best to you!
